Just this week, another edition of the TU Berlin’s Summer School has finished. This year we were teaching on the subject of Smart City Berlin with students from more than 10 different countries coming to Berlin to learn about the amazing smart city projects that happen in our city. For three weeks the course challenged the students to critically reflect and interrogate the “smart city” concept, contribute their own ideas and experiences from home and gain a broad perspective on how cities are innovating and cooperating all over the world for a more sustainable urban future.

Besides visiting innovational future places such as EUREF-Campus or ECF Farm we even had the chance to take the students to the Traffic Control Cetre of Berlin, which was not only for them but also us a very unique experience. The whole summer university was held in the event space of the CityLAB, a future innovation lab by the Senate of Berlin - located in one of the buildings of the former Tempelhof Airport. After 3 weeks of lectures and workshops the participants of the course presented some results of their work which took place on the pre-last day of the TU Summer University Term on the 18th July 2019.

We were amazed by the ideas the students came up with, how open minded they were and how well everyone contributed to work and discussions. It really was an honor to spend last weeks with so many bright young minds from all around the world.
